12 Low Calorie Snacks That Won’t Ruin Your Diet

Sometimes it's really difficult to get through your day without having a snack. Here is a list of 12 low calorie snacks that won't ruin your diet.

Sometimes it’s really difficult to get through your day without having a snack, and when you are supposed to be on a diet / healthy eating plan, it just makes it that much harder. Luckily there are loads of low calorie snacks out there that you can snack on without feeling guilty and ruining your diet.

Here is a list of 12 low calorie snacks that won’t ruin your diet.

Frozen grapes

Grapes are great, but even better when they are frozen. Just pop a handful of grapes in the freezer for a couple of hours, or overnight, for a great low calorie snack.

Serving size:100g

Popcorn

Okay, so not the kind you have to pop in oil, and definitely no added butter. The way to go is air popped popcorn.

All you need is popcorn kernels, a stove and a pan. Heat the pan to a medium heat, throw in some popcorn kernels and cover with a lid. You will want to gently shake the pan about every 20 seconds, and once the kernels start popping, every 10 seconds, to make sure they won’t burn.

Serving size: 1 cup popped

Calories: 31

Apple slices with peanut butter

This combination is delicious and very filling. Just do not overdo it on the peanut butter, since it can be quite high in calories. Simply cut your apple into slices, and spread a thin layer of peanut butter on the slice.

You can also use almond butter instead of peanut butter.

Serving size: 1 medium apple, 1 tbsp peanut butte

Calories: 166

Berries with cream

This snack is great because it can kinda sorta maybe feel like you are eating a yummy dessert. Maybe.

Use raspberries, strawberries or blueberries and a low calories whipped cream.

Serving size: 4 tbsp cool whip lite, ½ cup raspberries, ½ cup strawberries, ½ cup blueberries

Calories: 133

Steamed apple with cinnamon

This snack is easy to make in a microwave. Just place a peeled and sliced or diced apple in a microwavable bowl filled with a little bit of water and place in the microwave for about 5 minutes or so, checking every minute to see if it is soft. I cover the bowl, leaving a tiny gap, but it is not necessary. Once your apple is soft and ready, simply sprinkle it with some cinnamon and stevia.

Serving size: 1 medium apple

Calories: approx 72

Greek yoghurt with honey

Greek yoghurt is creamy and high in protein. Use a non-fat or low-fat yoghurt and drizzle it with some honey to sweeten it up.

Serving size: 100g non fat greek yoghurt, 1tbs honey

Calories: 124

Banana “ice cream”

This is great healthy alternative to normal ice cream. Simply cut up and freeze a banana for a few hours, and when they are frozen, through them into a blender with some stevia for a delicious easy homemade ice cream.

Serving size: medium banana

Calories: 105

Rice cakes with cucumber and cottage cheese

This snack is great because it is easy to throw together and very filling. Plus the ice cakes adds a nice crunch.

Serving size: 2 rice cakes, topped with ¼ cup of cottage cheese (between both rice cakes), ½ cup of cucumbers (between both rice cakes)

Calories: approx 118

Cereal bars

Cereal bars are great on the go snacks. There a a lot of different ones on the market so choose one you like – and one that is low in calories. A great cereal bar is the Special K bar, which only has 85 calories per bar.

Cherry tomatoes

Cherry tomatoes are also a great snack to just grab and go. Bonus points if you grow them yourself.

Serving size: 1 cup

Calories: 27

Dried mango

You can buy some or make your own. If you make them yourself, they will probably contain less calories than the store bought ones, and will also be cheaper.

Serving size: 100g

Calories: approx 60

Dark chocolate nut clusters

Nuts are typically high in calories, so this snack is best for when you have a craving for something sweet.

Simply melt your dark chocolate and dunk the nuts (one by one) in the chocolate, placing them in a cluster once dunked. Use about 3 nuts per cluster. You can use any nuts you want, but I would recommend almonds. You can also sprinkle the clusters with some sea salt.

Serving size: 2 clusters

Calories: approx. 102
