The most effective way to get rid of greasy hair is obviously to give your hair a good wash. But there are some days when we just don’t have the time for it and then we seek alternative methods to get rid of the greasiness.
My hair normally gets greasy really fast and I try to avoid washing my hair every day. And washing every day is not recommended since you strip away the natural oils of your hair, and you then over-produce more oil to compensate for the loss of oil.
So that’s why I rounded up 5 ways to get rid of greasy hair without washing it.
Dry Shampoo
Of course, this is the first thing on this list – dry shampoo is awesome! Dry shampoo will be your best friend on those greasy hair days. Simply spray the dry shampoo onto your greasy roots and work it into your hair and watch the magic happen.
There are a lot of different dry shampoos on the market but my favorite is the Batiste Dry Shampoo since it comes in different colors for different hair colors. And they smell pretty great too.
If you want to try Batiste dry shampoo you can get it here.
DIY Dry Shampoo
If you’ve run out of dry shampoo your the next best thing you can use is cornstarch. Sprinkle the cornstarch on your roots and let it sit for a few seconds before working it into your scalp.
If you have darker hair you can add some cacao powder to the cornstarch so that it won’t be as noticeable in your hair. You can also use baby powder if you don’t have cornstarch.
Hand Sanitizer
The main ingredient in hand sanitizer is alcohol, which draws out moisture. You can actually use any alcohol based products for this such as alcohol wipes and even perfume.
Pour some sanitizer in your hands and work it through your roots. The alcohol will evaporate leaving you with fresher looking hair.
You can use the alcohol wipes by simply wiping the areas where you produce the most sweat, along your forehead and along the back of your head at your hairline.
Don’t do this one too often since it can really dry your hair out.
Blotting Papers
Blotting papers are used to absorb excess oil from your face, so why not use it on your hair? Blot the papers on the roots of your hair that will be most visible.
Paper Towels
If you really have nothing handy to fight your greasy hair, use paper towels. Chances are you have some in your house. You will use the paper towels the same way as you would the blotting papers.
While this is not the best fix, it does help in an emergency and will at least get rid of some of the oil.
These quick fixes are great for getting rid of greasy hair in an emergency, but they won’t work for long term. You will need to fight the problem head-on and tackle the source of the oiliness. One way is to wash your hair less often so that your scalp won’t overproduce oil.
Do you have any tried and tested quick fixes for greasy hair not mentioned above? I would love to hear them, let me know in the comments below!
